About Elope

Hello friends, My name is Sonny and I live in Perth, Western Australia with my family and two shaggy sheepdogs.

I started sketching short wedding dresses years ago when my husband and I were getting married and I couldn’t find the right dress for our casual picnic wedding. I just wanted something short, fun, affordable and something I could wear again after the big day. I didn't find the mini dress I was after and wore a long beautiful dress which got trashed on the day as it bucketed with rain and I never wore it again. It was special, it was gorgeous and it was quite expensive, it just wasn't what I wanted and I didn't have time to have one made. So begins the Elope Bridal Journey.  

I also worked in hospitality for years and hosted lots of weddings at my tiny restaurant. I was so amazed at the brides wearing dresses they couldn't eat in and some brides couldn't even walk comfortably! My dresses are food and booze friendly and are an homage to bars and restaurants in Perth. They all have a little food and wine pairing 🥂

I am really happy to say that all the dresses are made locally here in Perth. It's been great to meet and work with a team here knowing we are supporting local businesses and helping each other to grow and thrive. I was so lucky to find Katie at Textile Lab in Perth, she was able to take my sketches and turn them into my reality. I hope to be able to continue producing locally and one day explore some interesting international techniques and fabrics. 

I like to support a little charity called Little things for Tiny Tots. I have a son and know how lucky I am to have the time and resources to care for him and that's why I like to support this charity. They do amazing work giving boxes of newborn baby things to new mothers who may be impacted by domestic violence, homelessness, mental illness, drug or alcohol addiction and a variety of other issues. I will be making a donation to Little Things for every dress sold. You can rest assured that the dress you choose will bring you joy and will bring comfort to the most vulnerable babies in WA.
